TaMHS - New Course offered for Schools (Date Posted: 26/05/2010) | Targeted Mental Health in Schools programme.
Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) is a three-year pathfinder programme aimed at supporting the development of innovative models of therapeutic and holistic mental health support in schools for children and young people aged five to 13 at risk of, and/or experiencing mental health problems.
In response to this initiative, both Scarborough Psychotherapy Training Institute (ScPTI) and Nottingham Psychotherapy Training Institute (NPTI) are proud to announce our new Certificate in Therapeutic Skills for Schools. The course, designed by Co-Director Lydia Noor is designed to enhance the emotional well being of children and young people. The course, run over fifteen days enables teachers, teaching assistants, learning mentors and other school-based workers to respond to vulnerable children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Already successfully piloted within East Riding of Yorkshire Local Authority, the course has already been re-commissioned to run for another year. Additionally, the course will also run in Withernsea as part of their TaMHS project.
Below are some comments from the first group of participants:
‘I have gained wider insight into many aspects of emotional literacy. I have used the course to train other staff.’
‘The personal support has been fantastic. Everyone should have access to this training if they work with children.’
‘This course has given me the theory behind what I do. It has given me the knowledge and confidence to inform other professionals and to pass on information and training to other Teaching Assistants.’
‘I have been challenged, supported and guided to find my potential.’
